UNM: Sevilleta Field Station

Located in a remote location in the northern Chihuahuan desert north of Socorro, the 19,597 s.f. field station highlights elements of its natural surroundings in its exterior masonry design, while the contrasting glass and bright aluminum recognize the high technology research being conducted within this state-of-the-art laboratory. Views of the Rio Grande Valley and adjacent mountain ranges are maximized by the building’s site location and orientation.

The field station provides research, teaching and conference spaces in areas with maximum day-lighting. Laboratories are designed to be flexible and modular for animal, plant physiological ecology, microbiology, genomics, chemistry, stable isotope and water analysis work.
