The two-story addition will be connected to the existing building via a two-story link. The lower level opens into a welcoming lobby. Three laboratory/classrooms, a break room, a server room and restrooms complete the layout. A raised loading dock is available for shipping and receiving purposes.
The second floor houses the associate director’s office, six other administrative offices, small and large conferences spaces, and restrooms. Overall, the building complies with New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson’s mandate requiring state buildings consume half as much energy as traditional buildings comparable in size and function.
SMPC will also provide landscape design for the addition. A new patio area will be constructed adjacent to the break room to allow for outdoor seating. Plants disturbed by construction will be replaced and new plantings are designed to be consistent with the existing plant pallet. The existing irrigation system is being reworked and extended to the new areas.
